folder redirection and offline files, windows server 2008 and win 7 clients

i have a brand new windows 2008 R2 standard server.  3 laptops that were on home premium and upgraded them to 7 pro.  joined them to domain that i had setup with active directory on the server.  setup folder redirection and thats works fine.  i redirected the desktop, docs, pics, music, videos.

The problem is im not sure what to setup as a gpo to have all the files that are redirected, available on the laptops for when they leave the office they have all their info.  i have been searching and have not found much.  do i enable background sync?  do i not need to setup anything and it will do it?

As soon as i kick the wireless off, the desktop icons disappear and i cannot read any of their data until i turn on the wireless again.  i assume i need offline files working?  how do i accomplish this?

You may try the following

1.Open GPMC and select your configured GPO.For example select the desktop option under folder redirection option in the GPO.
2.Do a right click and click on edit>> select settings tab and select the first option "Redirect the folder back to the local userprofile location when policy is removed" and the apply >> ok and run gpupdate /force

Hope this helps !!!!

on that same properites screen, i have the bottom 2 checked for desktop and documents.  i also have the pics, music and videos follow the documents folder.
I will try changing redirecting back to the local user profile on the desktop setting and the docuemnts.  then when they leave that network all their desktop and user stuff will stay on laptop?

trying it now. will follow up

Problems using Powershell and Active Directory?

Managing Active Directory does not always have to be complicated.  If you are spending more time trying instead of doing, then it's time to look at something else. For nearly 20 years, AD admins around the world have used one tool for day-to-day AD management: Hyena. Discover why

this is a picture of my group policy management.  my folder redirection is under my users OU.  should I apply at the domain level?
Did you give the laptops enough time to sync their files?

i found out the problem.  Somehow after i redirected the folders through gp.  both laptops never had offline files turned on.  I went through my trainsignal and found out what to do.  turned it on and selected the share and told it always available offline. they synced and now its working, (also had to setup the schedule in the sync center and make sure that both the folder redirected).  i thought it was supposed to come on by default?

The ONLY policy i made before this was disable windows firewall on the domain?  would this affect it?

I think i know now!  I had upgraded them from home prem to 7 pro with anytime upgrade. guess it does not turn on offline files??? please confirm?
