How do I tag a users facebook friends in a wall post through an app

On facebook you can tag friends names in wall posts by typing @ followed by the name of the friend.

However when trying to recreate this in a facebook app all we are getting is plaintext "@firstname secondname"

What must be done to allow an app to post on a users own wall tagging specified contacts?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Just type their name as displayed in FB.  As soon as their name or part of it is recognised a popup menu appears, select the name and they are tagged.  Simple ;o)

the pop up menu is not a feature of the facebook open graph as far as I am aware, so this is nt possible.

Also even if it was a part of it, that method would still require a user to make a selection from a menu.

What is needed is a way to tag users without the need of this menu
