Excel Lookup

Hi,
I have an Excel, which has Database with two columns, Name & Tel. No.
The user gets his details of telephone which only has no.'s

He wants to copy the no.'s & excel should look into the first part & put the names in front.

I have attached a Sample Excel.

If possible Iwould like this to be achieved by formula & not VB, but if not please feel free to add Macro.

Best,

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello,

please get rid of the merged cells. They will not play well with formulas, inserting columns, selecting cells, and more. Use "Center across selection" in the Alignment tab of the formatting dialog instead.

As to your question, you can use this in E3 and copy down:

=INDEX(A:A,MATCH(D3,B:B,0))

see attached.

Thanks Teylyn.

Saqib, although it's the same as he posted, but bang on point.

I am assigning you both points.

Saqib, hope you doing well, it's been a long time...

Thank for the points. For the record: the solution should be awarded to the first post with the correct answer, not the second. The formulas posted are exactly the same. Therefore, the solution should go to the first comment. Before you close your next question, please make sure to read the guidelines: http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp?hi=100
