2008 cluster on VMware possible?

I'm trying to create a 2008 cluster on VMware 4.1 for testing purposes,

As I had successfully done in the past with 2003 virtual clusters, I  created the additional disks with LSI Logic Parallel controller types on a different SCSI ID and mounted the disk paths to two 2k8 servers.

I can see the drives from the intended clusters, but after creating the cluster, when I try to add a disk, I get the error: "No disks suitable for cluster disks were found"

I've verified both systems can write to the shared space, so I'm wondering if their is a issue with 2008

There are several ways to do MFCS on VMware, but I find the easiest is to actually avoid using the SCSI adapters on VMware (among other things, you'll always be limited to 2-node clusters) and instead use the software iSCSI initiator on the nodes to access an iSCSI target.

If your storage is already able to offer iSCSI, you're already set: build the cluster according to the way you'd do it as a physical cluster on iSCSI. If you leave DRS (and sDRS on vSphere 5) enabled, it's not a "supported" configuration for MFCS on VMware, but if all you're doing is some testing of MCFS itself,  knock yourself out: as far as VMware is concerned, the in-guest iSCSI is just another TCP data flow.

If all your storage is either local or fibre, you have the additional step to provide an iSCSI target. That can be achieved by using a third 2008 guest, a trial of HP Lefthand VSA, or any of several options to build an iSCSI target for Linux.

Once you settle on iSCSI, you have complete mobility of the VMs, and you can add more than two nodes to the cluster. And if you're really cutting-edge, you can mix physical with virtual nodes in the cluster.
