Provide a logical name instead of local host

I need to provide a logical name (sitename ) instead of localhost for my application running on my local PC.
Like from
http://localhost:8080/applicationname
to
http://sitename/applicationname

to use the name only in your PC, in the hosts file, bind the name you want to the 127.0.0.1 address

127.0.0.1       localhost, yourname

do you also need to let others use your application while in development?
If yes, then you need a permanent IP address for your PC, and to assign the name to your IP in the DNS you use.

use your machines computername, right click on my computer, go to properties, or modify your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file and put in any name you want
