I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

use your machines computername, right click on my computer, go to properties, or modify your c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts file and put in any name you want

to use the name only in your PC, in the hosts file, bind the name you want to the address       localhost, yourname

do you also need to let others use your application while in development?
If yes, then you need a permanent IP address for your PC, and to assign the name to your IP in the DNS you use.
