defraggler vs native tool

what would be benefits to go for defragmentors that windows did not provide? are there better technologies these 3rd party tools provide more than MS? (since this is the most touted i have seen for this purpose)

There are other defraggers.

PerfectDisk http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PerfectDisk is the most well known of the commercial defraggers and comes in all sorts of options including Server versions.  Look at the link for what it offers.

Also look at MyDefrag http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MyDefrag and UltraDefrag http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UltraDefrag  Free for use.

I've used an early version of MyDefrag and it did the job.  I prefer Defraggler as it has a much simpler interface and seemed to be faster.

The most important difference for me is Defragllers ability to defragment chosen file or folder. Also several times it defragmented files that internal defragmentor was unable to.

The defragment tools provided by 3rd party softwares will have pause option.
Rest of the performance would remain same as per my knowledge.
Both of them will take the same time to complete,
It didn't make any difference when I tried with Priform Defrag tool which is freely available in filehippo website.
Trust the Windows INBUILT Tool only as they are the developers, they can go in depth to locate the broken files.
Defragger is usually useful only to club or merge the broken portions on the disk though they may not make any difference in our regular usage,
But it is good to run these defraggers to maintain the performance of your computer.

so, would it be safe to say as long as the tool uses the Microsoft's defragmentation API, all their end efficiency is going to be the same?

Do server softwares like Diskkeeper or PerfectDisk have their own APIs?

you are referring to the regular defragmentation process, right?

I was asking from the below
>>Defragger is usually useful only to club or merge the broken portions on the disk
*by defragger do you mean only the ones using Windows API or all tools that may use their own API for defrag?

dbruntonConnect With a Mentor Commented:
All modern defraggers use the Windows API for defragging.  They will add features to their own code to make their defraggers different from others.
