Windows 7 Network Adapters

Hello

I have a pc in my shop for repair, a few months ago beer was split on the laptop. but they let it dry and and worked fine, apart from WiFi.

When i go into Netowork & Sharing Center and click Change adapter settings, there is non in there,  if you look in device manager they are missing, BUT if you plug a ethernet cable in, the etherent port starts to work.

Any ideas why?

Beer is NOT water, so just letting it dry will leave a residue. Truly, the machine is probably gone, but you can try disassembling as much as you can, rinsing with distilled water and allowing rinsed parts to dry. You can always replace the Wireless card, but you will probably find residue in the contacts.

I suggest you write this one off to experience. The only liquid in a laptop you can allow to dry (and no guarantees) is pure water. .... Thinkpads_User

The Wireless adapter is usually a separate adapter the you can remove. Look for a cover at the bottom of the laptop and remove that (or if there are several and you can't define from the manual or the signs punched in the plastic of the laptop which cover covers what), the look for the wireless adapter and remove it. After that try cleaning the contact surfaces and after that try reconnecting it.

If it still won't work, look for a switch, button or softkey combination that is to turn the wireless on and off.

Actually beer is almost water, but of course it depends on the brand. I once heard that joke where someone asked "What's the difference between a Bud and sex in a canoe?", and the answer was "None, both are bloody close to water!"    :)

Beer still leaves a residue. Spill some on your white shirt and check. .... Thinkpads_User

I prefer drinking beer and not spilling it, and I don't wear white shirts, only the black EE T-Shirts...;)

As I noted, adapters plug in. Liquids seep in. So the contacts may be damaged/dirty. You do need to clear as much residue out as you can.  It won't be a software problem (unless some weird hardware issue corrupted software).
