I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Let Windows manage the size!. It does it with the following schema:

Minimum Page File Size  1.5 * RAM Size
Maximum Page File Size 3 * RAM Size

install windows 7 64 bit ,,, it detects the whole RAM even if you have more than 4 GB,,,
Installing SP1 should give you a more accurate reading of the RAM

I need to change this from automatic to manual so need the min and max as some inbuilt applications need us to change
It is best practise to have page file reside on a seperate HDD to OS, so that read/writes do not conflict.  I could do this with XP but 7 does not seem to like it for some reason.
I know this is what you asked but.....i do not like pagefile as it only can slow things down etc. With the price of memory these days i tend to either buy my PC/Servers with the additional memory or add it afterwards. In the long run you will be happier, trust me on this one. By the way all the suggestions above are valid.
As the very first reply mentioned, normally it is best to let Windows manage the size but if you need to set it manually for some reason, I would establish both the minimum and maximum size at a level that is 150% of the installed RAM.  In your particular scenario, that would be a 6 GB page file.
