Adding disk to Dell 2850 w/ Perc 4e/Di Raid 5

We need to add disk to our PDC which is also running exchange.  We have 3 free drive bays and I want to populate them and define them as a new drive letter.  The current 3 drives are raid 5.  Can I just plug these in and they will automatically be added to the existing raid array?

We are not running Open Manage.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You have 2 choices
1. boot to the raid controller and create a new array with the new drives
2. install open manage and do the same thing within windows

Will the new array require 3 drives?

Thats really up to you
if you want drive failure protection you will want raid 1(2 drives) or raid 5(3 drives)
