I have 2 servers:
1) Server 2003 R2, DC, GC, exchange 2003
2) server 2008 R2, DC, DC, Exchange 2010
There are no mailboxes left on the Exchange 2003 box. They client didn't want to purchase 2 servers, so I had to put all of the roles on one box.
I was having an issue, whenever I shut off the 2k3 server, Exchange 2010 would stop functioning on the 2k8 server, and no one would be able to access email.
I noticed that the preferred DC for Exchange 2010 was the 2k3 Server (which I did not want).
FIRST, I ran Set-ADServerSettings -PreferredServer dc2.exchangeserverpro.local............ but it seemed to go right back to the old server after a reboot, or the service stopped/started.... so i tried:
I opened the EMS and modified the UserPreferredGlobalCatalog and UserPreferredConfigurationDomainController to my server 2008 box. I stopped the services, attempted to restart, but they will not.
I understand I can take those entries out by using $null, but how can I do that if I can no longer start the services and get back into EMS?
Any way to force Exchange 2010 to use a different domain controller when the services won't start?
