win/sql server 2008

1. Moving from Informix to SQL Server for an ERP system, what tools are available to analyze inputs/outputs, optimize performance and identify bottlenecks during stress testing in the win/sql server environment?

2. Wanting to hire help to do this.  Is Microsoft's Gold Partner program a good place to start?

3.  Are there ways to move 4gl over to vb script or other Microsoft tool?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi,

1. SQL/Windows - there is the Performance Monitor. There are Dynamic Management Views in SQL. See http://www.bradmcgehee.com/2010/07/free-sql-server-dmv-starter-pack/

2. A fair idea. But do check on their references for SQL work and experience.

How do I approach starting a dialog with an expert for purposes of a project?
Ideally, would be area specific, Southern Cal, Orange County, San diego area.
Although remote could work too.

Hi Keith,

I'm not sure as location isn't as far as I recall part of the profile. Otherwise it is look at experts profiles from your topic area. There is a Hall of Fame in the experts view that ranks experts via their points for Week, Month, Year (default), overall.

I'd suggest asking the above in the community support.

Maybe worth another question here ie Want to hire an expert ...
