cisco 2516 with hub ethernet ports

i have amy own ccie lab. one of my back bone router is  2516-J , having 1 etehrnet port and 14 ethernet hub ports.
when i do sh ver. it shows me 14 hub ethernet ports and 1 ethernet ports. but i dont see any separate  ethernet ports on the router. i just see 14 etherrnet ports.

and that ports shows up when i run  " sh ip int brief " . even if i unplug the  network cable ( cable is connected on port 1 of those 14 eth hub ports.

switchport which is connected to this is showing me "not connect " status

please advice.

Don't know for sure but my guess is the 14 Ethernet ports are physical ports for cable connections, and the other Ethernet is an internal port where you configure what amounts to a VLAN interface.  I don't see a configuration guide specific to the 2516.  Until you get into the NM switch modules, I don't think you could put different physical ports into different VLANs.

i am just  having only 1 vlan  and 1 physical connection to switch.
Don JohnstonInstructorCommented:
If memory serves, the "ethernet" port is a virtual port that the 14 hub ethernet ports are connected to.  There is no physical connector for e0. Only "hub ether" 0 1-4.

Are you using a known good crossover cable?
ilusionnsAuthor Commented:
I am using a regular straight  cable
Don JohnstonInstructorCommented:
Well there's your problem.  :-)

You need a crossover.
ilusionnsAuthor Commented:
Same cable worked for 3560
Don JohnstonInstructorCommented:
Then use the 3560.

But if you want to use the 3550, you'll need a crossover.

Don JohnstonInstructorCommented:
The 3550's don't do auto MDX.  3560's do.
