redirecting unavailable page to 404.aspx in .Net2.0

Hi,

I have created new site in asp.net 2.0. Previous site was in classic asp and html

Now site has gone live. In google user is getting .asp and .html pages

If user is clicking on these .asp or html pages then user is re-directing to the normal 404 page, but if user is writting any unavailable .aspx file then user is redirecting to 404.aspx file

but if user is typing unavailable .asp or html page then it is not re-directing to 404.aspx file

It is working for any .aspx file but not files with .html or .asp files

We have tag custom error="On" in web.config file and tag
<error statusCode="404" redirect="/404.aspx" />

How do we fix this for asp and html file to re-direct to 404.aspx file if file does not exists

Please suggest

Many Thanks

Don't know what server/version you are using, but I'm going to guess from the context that you may be using IIS6.

Have you setup IIS to manage the 404 and point to your 404.aspx file?

See this article for IIS6:

If using another server then google how to set 404 error page with that server.
