On Excel Developer Tab XML Source Button Greyed out

I'm trying to create an XSD and need to use the Source button on excel, but it is greyed out.  Why and how do I fix this?  (Expansion packs is the only non-greyed item in the XML group.)

thanks,

It could be one of a number of things.  Let's start simple:

Do you have more than one worksheet tab selected?  Look down at the bottom bar of Excel, where your sheet tab names are.  If more than one of those is selected at a time (re: grouped), then things like Insert, Edit, etc., don't work - including your greyed cells.  I just tested that side-effect of grouping sheets and I see what you do.
