I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi, that depends on things like hardware and resource usage per application. In general a difficult question to answer. Some info is here: http://support.citrix.com/servlet/KbServlet/download/14728-102-17413/Scalability%20-%20Number%20of%20Users%20per%20Presentation%20Server.pdf

Depending on the application and server you can get from the single digit user count to hundreds of users per server.

I know of companies that publish well over 1000 apps per farm.

We currently look after Citrix farms with the largest published applications of 576 applications per server

issues we have

1. size of registry
2. windows fonts

because most applications want to install fonts, and only so many can be registered, so you have to be selective with your fonts.

As for users we find the sweet spot for us, is 75 to 90 concurrent working users, not just logged in idle, on dual processor, quad core processors.

Also you can go for citrix streaming option too. behalf of installing application locally in servers. This will help you to stream the app and publish it in one server.

The Maximun number of application on a Citrix server(PS4.5) and the number of users per applications are preposinal to multiple factors. Including the server hardware and software capability, How many bit os and apps..etc
I heard Citrix tested farms over 1000 member servers and 100,000 concurrent sessions.
Citrix Inc doesnt publish any data on the maximum number of apps and users per apps and this is purely depends on other variables you have in place.

With XenApp 6.5, Citrix labs tested 1,000 physical servers in one farm with one zone with one data collector and 250,000 concurrent users.

Just to add to all the experts and to support the fact that every environment is unique we have the following:

Approx. 150 apps in one farm

Each XenServer has a dual quad core processor with hyperthreading enabled, 96GB RAM and can host approx. 18 VMs (2 vCPU and 4 GB RAM) without performance degradation

Due to the nature of our apps we have limited the number of concurrent users to 10 per VM to keep the VM performing well with no issues.
