Will Windows Server 2008 Standard version R1 be updated to R2

Will Windows Server 2008 Standard version R1 be updated to R2 through WINDOWS UPDATES?

No.  Windows 2008 R2 is a totally 64-bit OS, Windows 2008 is x86 and x64.  There are a ton of improvements in R2 vs R1 as well

If I use the R1 X64 it still will not upgrade through "Windows Updat to R2?

You cannot do it through Windows updates but if you are on a select agreement, AFAIK you are eligible to upgrade as the selects don't distinguish R2 and non R2- - just 2008.

Windows 2008 is the server version of Vista. Windows 2008 R2 is the server version of Windows 7. Just as there is no windows update/patch from Vista to Windows 7, there is no update/patch to go from Windows 2008 to Windows 2008 R2. You would need to do an upgrade installation of Windows 2008 R2, and be licensed for 2008 R2.
