Can an EE provide some on-hand experience on DevExpress?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

What we really want would be like an overview of this product of DevExpress,  Some time back me made an analysis of different types of tools and decided on DevExpress.  We did purchase the product but the programmer hasn't been able to put it to use as it should be.  A while back we changed programmers and need to have the new one get his feet wet quickly.  I guess what we need is:

1. Insight view of DevExpress from an EE point of view on how really ease-of-use of the product is
2. Some sort of Tutorial Video of DevExpress
3. Any fancy examples maybe of the product.

In general, something we can pass the programmer to spite the direction of the use of the tool.

I suggest you start at the source, http://www.devexpress.com/  Demo's, documentation and a forum is available for your development team to dive right into.  The rest is just utilizing the controls as they lie in VS.

That what we decided prior placing the question.  What we would like is if any EE out there with some expierence of DevExpress can give first hand opinion on the question we would like to address:

   1. An actual insight of the product and it's ease-of-use
   2. A tutorial, PDF or documentation that EE can reference as a good source
   3. Finally, an example of the product in practice.

There is a lot of documentations and links and we are going thru them.  Some half ways we see its of no use, others are more directed to our end.  If there is no EE thats covers this area, it;s ok.  We gave it shot.

Thanks in advance

I have used Devexpress but I wont be able to provide what you are asking for. Its a great library and it has a learning curve. Your programmer, if he is a programmer, should not need you to provide him with tutorials etc. He should be able to find loads of resources on Google and learn it.

Do you devexpress always or on certain occasions?

I was using it with winforms in my previous job.

Would you recommend the product to a junior programmer?
0
CodeCruiserCommented:
No one can do that. A senior programmer may have trouble working with a library and a junior programmer may become fluent quickly or vice versa. It depends on the person.

But if you were to recommend DevExpress, would you?  And what would be your main feature of the product that would made you recommend it?

FYI:  we want to make a decision whether to keep the product or buy another.

I would recommend it. It has a lot of great controls and the support is excellent as well. There are other great products such as Telerik etc. In my current company, they did a full evaluation with comparisons among different products and chose DevExpress.

When you started using devexpress, you went on your own searching google for info, samples, demo, tutorials?

CodeCruiserCommented:
Yes. But documentation and samples on their website were very useful.

Sorted?

We would've appreciated an answer more as a response to our question.  Some actual insight view of DevExpress from an EE point of view or some sort of Tutorial references.  Anyways, thanx.
