Windows 7 machine going black screen after windows load bar.

My windows 7 laptop is going to a black screen after windows load bar logo.  Just stays on that black screen.  I do a system restore and it seems to work for like 1 or two boots and goes back to the black screen.  Any ideas?

Install updated graphics driver from manufacturer can check it in device manager.

The restore outcome is interesting. It could possibly be hardware (thermal and/or memory). More likely, I think, it is probably a virus or malware.

Have you tried booting in Safe Mode?  And what was the result.

If you can, obain and run Malwarebytes and see if that helps.

If you cannot get to the cause, back up your data (bootable CD) and reinsall Windows.

I am able to get into safe mode all the time.  I am doing all windows updates and including the optional hardware ones.  There was a graphics one in there.  Hopefully that will work.

Another thing to consider, if you can get into Safe Mode is Windows User Profile. Create a new Windows User Profile and log into it. If that works, you may have Profile corruption (which is common). .... Thinkpads_User

Given the asker's comments, a corrupt profile (my post ID:37337946) is probably the cause. We need the asker to follow up and verify, however. ... Thinkpads_User
