Installing MySql

I recently downloaded       MySQL 5.5.19

The installation seemed to go very well until the last stage and then I received an error message
as in the attached image.

Can anyone think what may have gone wrong please?

Many thanks

Are you installing this as an Administrator?  You'll need Administrator privilege.
What version of Windows?

Thanks larsrohr

I am installing as administrator and the OS is xp
Did you by any chance have a previous installation of MySql (or previously-attempted installation)?

It seems that uninstalling MySql sometimes leaves a bit behind, so a reinstall will fail like this.  Try uninstalling, then run at a command prompt:   sc delete MySql
Then re-install.
