You can't use SQL backup to the same library that you use Data Protector on with the HP-UX box since they'll get confused over who owns the tapes and may even overwrite each other's data.

You would have to partition your library into two logical libraries and give one to HP-UX / HPDP and the other to SQL. Btter would be to install HPDP Windows backup agent and SQL application agent and let Data Protector do the job.

Hi

You need to install HP tape drivers for your operating system, then create backup device in SQL Server or use UNC path to tape.

Hi,

Be aware that SQL backup to tape is beign deprecated, and discontinued from I forget which version.

My thought was to get licence a) for SQL b) for VMWare and use your standard backup software to pull the data ...

Tape backup is still? available in SQL Server 2008 R2, but there is a note:

Support for tape backup devices will be removed in a future version of SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use this feature
