windows 7 sony vaio synaptics touchpad all of a sudden doesn't work

is there a hot key or any other thing that would disable the touchpad on the third day od having the laptop. or is the sony vaio garbage, and i have made a big mistake getting one?

The Touchpad is an electronic component and can fail, even after 3 days of use. Luckily, you have a warranty, right? Sony should provide a free repair to replace the touchpad. This can happen on any brand of laptop.

The real answer about whether Sony is a good 'buy' is how well and fast they can fix it. IMO, computer purchase is really about who provides the best support and I prefer Dell since they have on-site repair and you dont have to ship the laptop to a central repair center for most things.

I just noticed the touchpad works on the "log-in" screen and does not work once you log in. do you think it is still faulty or do you think it could be a setting?
Sounds very much like a setting. Check to see what software it is using in the control panel under Mouse. Do you have a external mouse plugged in?
