Power requirements for a montior

At work I have a Dell T3500 connected to 4x Dell 1905FP monitors, link below. I am trying to make sure I have a large enough power UPS but I can't get a solid answer on the power consumption. On the back of the monitor all it says is 100-240v ~ 1.5A, but I can remember the conversion formula. At the link below they mention that if I have the VESA DPM the max power is 65w with the normal power at 32w. I am looking to see if anyone has had a similar problem figuring out the power consumption on a monitor.

120v at 1.5a is 180 watts ... but it's VERY unlikely the display actually draws that (except possibly at startup for a very brief interval).    The 65w maximum shown in the monitor specification sheet is what I'd use in computing the UPS requirement -- and if you don't use the built-in USB hub or have any speakers connected to the display (e.g. a Dell Soundbar) then the 32w figure is more accurate.    Note that the DPM features of your display card don't impact those numbers -- that's what lets it switch to the "active-off" mode where it only draws 3w (clearly not a factor in computing the UPS requirement).

So ... with 4 of the displays, I'd consider the total display power requirement no more than 200 watts  [Assuming 65w for one display that may have a soundbar;  and 45w for each of the other 3, to allow some USB power -- which you may not be using].     If you want to be really safe, consider it 260w (4 x 65).

  That is awesome!!!! Where did you get that from? Garycase, thanks for you explanation that puts my mind at ease because I was worrying about the size of my UPS if I was going to use 180 watts.

Note that the 53w consumption shown in wsawalhi's post above is with a 220v, 50hz supply -- which is VERY unlikely the case in the US.    The Dell documentation that shows a 65w maximum is much more likely to be accurate with a 120v connection.

In either case, planning for ~ 200w for the displays is a "safe" assumption when calculating your UPS requirements.

4 monitors should add you 179va loading to the UPS at normal power or 364 when all of them use the maximum power.

wsawalhi, thanks for that report it was very helpful. garycase, on the way back home I stopped at Home Depot and they had that measurement device from P3 and it is currently ready a single monitor at 34-35 watts. Thanks you everyone it helped a lot!
