How to discover the Administraive/Host IP address for the Cisco 4510

I recently assumed a new role and took ownership of a Cisco 4510 Cat. switch.
I would like to use putty to dispaly the running-config, but I do not have the host ip
address for the  switch.  How can I discover the host ip?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

connect a laptop to the switch and run the ipconfig command.

Best way is directly through the console port of the switch to serial port on PC.
then just use "show ip interface brief" and you should be able to determine an IP address that you can telnet to thereafter.

As mentioned the easiest way is to console in assuming you have the console cable and passwords and do 'show run'.  Look for the SVI, layer3, or mgt interface that's being used for management.

Is the switch your default gateway?  If so just do 'ipconfig' (or equivalent) and try and ssh/telnet to the gateway IP.

If it's not your gateway, look at the switch and find it's MAC address, do 'arp -a' and connect to the device that has it's MAC.  You may need to ping every address in the subnet before it shows in the ARP table if you don't already have it there.
