Will stand alone monitor and laptop automatically know the settings

I just bought a new Laptop (HP Envy) and a stand alone ViewSonic monitor.  When I am on the road will the lap top automatically know to adjust the settings ?  When I come back home and insert the laptop into the ViewSonic monitor will it know to adjust the settings ?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Yes.. this is all automatic... in you have Windows 7 on the HP, you will be fine..

You can also press the WINDOWS KEY on your keyboard, down by the Ctrl and Alt key, and press the letter P, to pop up the "monitor" function you want to run once you connect to the ViewSonic and when you disconnect..

works for me
