We would really need more info to go on, operting systems, link speed, volume of data etc to make any kind of reccomendations for your questions

E.g.
If windows, use group policy to redirect desktops, my documents etc, then use windows backup to backup them ?
OR
Or use an offsite backup solution?

One free suggestion would be to use Richcopy or Robocopy via scripts that kick off through Windows scheduling. We do that for data stored on workstations. I have the scripts mirror directories and deposit them on our SAN; they are later copied to external media for safe keeping. Rich/RoboCopy can also produce logs of what gets backed up -- I have a composite log emailed to me every morning.

You can still use Richcopy or Robocopy; you do not need a domain to use them. They both produce logs which you could have deposited on a network share.

@newmatch....i am at corporate so it would not be possible for me to login every computer and check logs of robo copy...computers are about 400....????

When I mentioned a network share -- I meant a share you have access to, centrally. If that isn't possible you could use a command-line based email client to mail yourself the logs produced from the aforementioned tools. I use this one for a similar purpose: http://www.beyondlogic.org/solutions/cmdlinemail/cmdlinemail.htm

@newmath/////can u start me off with robocopy script whihc you guys r using.....and i have to only access one share to see the logs of every computer

This is what I use; modify it for your usage: robocopy source destination /mir /sec /r:0 /np /x /log+:logfile.log /tee

Also, if you run robocopy /? it will give you a break down of each switch.
