iPhone iOS 4.4 / 4.5 Jailbroken: Install make, wget, gcc, perl?

Hi Experts,

I want to install make, wget, gcc and Perl on my jailbroken iPhone.

I attempted to find wget in cydia, but was not successful, maybe using the incorrect repos for it.

I have openssh installed, and can ssh to my phone.

Thanks for any help on this!

hi,

You can't install GCC on your iPhone without jailbreaking it. The problem with jailbreaking is that you'll probably void your phone's warranty (provided you have one). Other than that, I've been using jailbroken devices forever now and never experienced any weird issues with them.

Now, if you tell us what you need GCC for inside your iPhone, you'll probably get better answers.

"on my jailbroken iPhone."

;-)

I've googled and already found the documents you mentioned:

apt-key
wget

Are not available on my phone, hence this post.

If I can do without gcc I don't mind :)

My goal is to install Perl.

I installed wget from cydia after selecting "manage" -> "settings" -> "hacker", killed the app, then reopened it and let cydia update: then did a search for wget.

So far so good.

I installed "Aptitude" via cydia, but for some odd reason, apt-get doesn't show up in my openssh terminal as an option...

It's working now.

I installed a few other "apt" packages, and one of them must have installed it for me...

It's working now.

This is what I did, for others who may be as confused as I was a few hours ago.

1) Open Cydia (from your jail-broken iphone).
2) Manage -> Settings (upper left corner) -> Select "hacker"
3) Home Button -> Press Cydia again (to reload Cydia)
4) Search and install:

Wget
Aptitude

Optional:
Abtupdate for SBSettings [installs some other things and restarts SB]

Then follow this guide: http://iphonesdkdev.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-install-perl-theos-and-iphone.html

For which I will give the above poster point credit (*caugh*)

May the apple fall on your head!
