I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi try with Test Disk by connecting the HDD using SATA connector to another computer

Do not run CHKDSK on this drive yet. Try first GetDataBack www.runtime.org or free version such as Recuva www.recuva.com
Also, I recommend using this free service if you are not a geek in data recovery: http://freedatarecovery.us/
But do not run any fix tool on the drive. They could make the problem worse.

I agree with noxcho on not using software which writes to the drive, which could make it worse.  GetDataBack lets you try it out and it costs nothing to see if it can detect the data; you only pay for it if you want to save the data.  If the software can't detect the files, you will have to send the drive to a data recovery company, which is not cheap.  I would recommend www.gillware.com in this case.
