How do i search Exchange 2003 Information Store for a specific email domain

I have been requested to search our Exchange 2003 Information Store for all email to and from a specific email address. Is this possible using exmerge and if so how does that work. Or is there another utility out there which could achieve the desired result?

TIA

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

this feature is not available by default in exchange 2003 but available in 2010, however you can enable Journaling and search on Journal mailbox...

http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/implementing-exchange-2003-message-journaling.html

other option will be tracking of emails from the sender requested, that will give you to whom all the email has been delivered.

With journaling enabled, with that give me access to messages sent in the past or just going forward.

from the date you enable the journaling..

for past results you will have to rely on the message tracking for now..

How would I get message tracking to extract the data that I need. I basically need to find all emails sent to and from a specific email domain.

Exchange 2003 native tracking tool does not give an option to extract the tracking result, it gives a view only tracking results.

You may use the log parser for extracting the tracking logs results- http://msexchangetips.blogspot.com/2006/09/exchange-exporting-and-querying.html

If you are looking for the message contents, thats not possible without the journaling. You may take ownership of required mailboxes once you filter the tracking results.

Will the parser enable me to extract the body of the message as well?

No... , I have mentioned in the last sentense " for the message contents, thats not possible without the journaling. You may take ownership of required mailboxes"

you need to log-in to individual mailboxes and look for the message body and other details.... it is tedious job without journaling ...

One more question, what about enabling full text indexing. Would that achieve the desired result.

No, full-text indexing will help the users to quickly search for any word or phrase in the body of any item in their own mailbox
