GroupWIse v7 Find/Search Tool

We run GroupWise v7, some users use the find tool extensivly. recently I have users reporting  the find soluion either has stopped working or will find items upto a certain date.

Is anyone aware how to build/rebuild the indexes? can they be done per account basis ?

I wear a lot of hats...

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

First make sure Quickfinder indexing is running properly. Here's a good article on how to do that:
http://www.novell.com/coolsolutions/feature/9792.html

You can also set a switch in the POA startup file to rebuild all QF indexes (this can take several hours depending on the number of items in your POA and your processor speed):
1. Edit post office startup configuration file and add the following switches at the bottom of the file
/qflevel-999
2. Save and exit the Post Office startup configuration file
3. Restart the Post Office Agent
4. On the Post Office Agent screen press "Ctrl+Shift+Q"
5. Once the indexing is complete, remove the above listed switches from the Post Office startup configuration file and restart the Post Office Agent

Here's how you can rebuild a single user's QF index set:
1. Edit post office startup configuration file and add the following switches at the bottom of the file
/noqf
/qfuserfidbeg-xxx (where xxx is the fid of the user)
/qfuserfidend-xxx
/qfnolibs
/qfnopreproc
/qflevel-999
2. Save and exit the Post Office startup configuration file
3. Restart the Post Office Agent
4. On the Post Office Agent screen press "Ctrl+Shift+Q"
5. Once the indexing is complete, remove the above listed switches from the Post Office startup configuration file and restart the Post Office Agent

Thanks for your response. I have tried the suggestion you mention. One user whose index we rebuilt now reports that when he uses the quick find, his emails from October 2009 to March 2011 are very quick to return with results, however the email betweek April 2011 to date do not appear to be found.

I vaguely remember seeing in a Novell forum post that items are indexed 3000 at a time, although I thought the /qflevel-999 switch did a complete reindex without restrictions. My next guess would be that a top down rebuild would be in order to correct a problem database entry that could be crashing the indexing.

Henryrohifs,

Thanks for your comment, How do I start a top down rebuild? I notice in the POA console, (netware 6.5) pressing F10 give me a menu, with an Actions option. Selecting this I see Quickfinder, there are four options here, last one being Delete and regenerate all Quickfinder Indexes.

Is this a way of doing what you are suggesting?

Sorry I took so long to get back with you. Instructions for a top down rebuild can be found here:

It can take a long time depending on how many users and entries you have. But it will make sure that the underlying data is in good shape before Quickfinder tries to index the records.
