Hi,

We are setting up Cisco IP Phones along with our data network and we wanted advice on how best to seperate thru VLANs. We havent had to setup VLANs in a while and wanted to confirm the Cisco IOS commands needed to setup a VLAN/truck port etc. Can someone help?

Secondly, we are looking to setup Cisco IP Phones and wanted to know if their are any differences in the Cisco IOS VLAN/port trucking commands becuase a certain VLAN would be used for voice traffic?

Thanks

Don't forget you able to configure it if the switch in vtp transparent or vtp server mode!

CTRL+Z
vlan data
 vtp transparent
 apply
 exit
CTRL+Z
vlan data
 vtp server
 apply
 exit
The port of a cisco switch connected to a cisco IP phone is not a classic trunk port.
Configuration wise it's an access port with a voice vlan assigned.

interface FastEthernet1/0/10
 switchport mode access
 switchport protected
 switchport voice vlan 10
 switchport access vlan 5
!

On the cisco swithes you have a macro to configure automagically the port with the proper parameters

For the rest the Data and Voice vlan need to be created and will be managed as all the other vlans.

interface FastEthernet1/0/10
  macro apply cisco-phone
!

It will set for your the spanning tree config, + the autoqos policy
