Email Search Tool

Is there a tool I can use to search exchange mail boxes for a specific email. AI usually get these request for legal purposes and I have to connect to the mail box and start a search. Is there a tool I can run form my desktop that would connect to the exchange 2003 server and once I enter the user name, it would pull up the mailbox and I can do a search for the requested mail

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There is a product by Ontrack, Single Mailbox Recovery, which can search the entire Datastore for emails.

Do you have a budget for this? 1 possible solution, that is fairly inexpensive considering the 'solution', is an email archive appliance. I know it's prob more than what you're wanting, but since you mentioned 'legal purposes', an archive solution takes care of 2 legal items -> retention and integrity (of the email). Barracuda Message Archiver is a fairly easy solution to implement and search emails. You can also quite easily export the email (or emails) into a PST file, or other types. It'll run ya about $5K per appliance. A reseller could get you a better deal though...

We are actually looking into an archiving solution. Looking at Symantec Enterprise Vault. I am looking for a cheap interim solution

You can look at GFI product or Barracuda for an interim solution but it doesn't compare to Enterprise Vault.  GFI would probably be the most cost effecient.
