Windows 7 Shutdown Issue

I'm having issues with a Windows 7 32 Bit computer.  There is a application or service hanging on it.  It takes 3 -10 minutes to shutdown or restart.  Please advise how I can troubleshoot this issue.

Thanks

Try clean boot.

Clean boot process

Start-type - msconfig- click on startup tab- click disable all...then click services tab- put a check on hide all microsoft services ...and then click disable all....click ok and then restart the computer in normal mode.

If able to shutdown and restart in clean boot then enable five startup items and services at a time to find the faulty software.

What version of Windows 7 are you using.
Also, do you have Service Pack 1 installed?
Any recent programs or applications installed, anything different which might account for the issue?

Ended up Solving the issue by connecting to the Domain Controller via VPN.  Windows 7 for some reason was looking for something on the domain controller.  Awarding points for the Clean boot.
