checkbox Button highlight color

I have checkboxes displayed as buttons using the Appearance = Button setting. I need to change the highlight color that indicates that the checkbox state is checked. It’s picking up a blue color that is drowning out my text.

NOTE: This is not the background color. I have already tried setting this. Does anyone know how to set this highlight color?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Can you use the ForeColor?

That changes the font color. This seems like something we should be able to control. I'm just having a tough time finding the setting for it.

It seems that the UseVisualStyleBackColor makes the checkbox button darker when checked. That is default for standard FlatStyle style.
Otherwise you can use this:
Me.CheckBox1.FlatAppearance.BorderColor = Color.Blue
Me.CheckBox1.FlatAppearance.CheckedBackColor = Color.BlanchedAlmond
'If you do not set the next property to flat the colors above won't matter
Me.CheckBox1.FlatStyle = FlatStyle.Flat

All of the above can be acomplished through the designer as well.
If none of the above is what you need you could create your own control, inherit from checkbox and override paint.
