Exchange ActiveSync Upload/Download Bandwidth Required?
I am reviewing several client setups for ActiveSync as far as bandwidth required to service mobile devices syncing mail/calendar/contacts.
They are small businesses with a max of 15 remote devices connecting to Exchange, so I was trying to baseline a download/upload speed to ensure this service works correctly.
Any suggestions?

I have about 100 devices with Exchange accounts running happily from our Exchange 2010 server and our Upload / Download speed is 1.3Mb / 8mb

I have a number of SMB clients who are only able to get ADSL with no more than 1mb Down and 256kb Up, so as you can imagine when an Exchange Server is using the Up on these connections it could get congested.
Based upon these scenarios I would like to provide all clients a baseline/recommendation to upgrade Internet plans/connections where possible.
So perhaps something like per 10 Email Accounts being used for Active Sync, 512kb is required.
Thoughts?

I can't comment as I don't have any customers with an equivalent speed unfortunately.
The way Activesync works is to maintain an open connection with the server with no data being transmitted. When a new email arrives on the server, the server sends a message to the device and tells it to sync. The device then syncs and pulls down the new message.
If the message is big - then the outbound speed will be an issue, but if not, then I don't see it being a problem - you are talking about a few kb, which won't take long to download, but it depends on what else is using the connection.

Thanks Alan.
Any ideas or hints on how I can start to baseline? Assuming that there could be other services like VPN/RWW/OWA etc.?
