Outlook 2003 is very slow when searching.

We have an exchange 2003 server and a user using outlook 2003. The user complains that when she searches her deleted email it takes a very long time to come up with results. Her mailbox size is only 1 GB so i dont see why it would take that long to search. I have asked the user not to move emails that she may need in the futre to the deleted folder but i cant her to cooperate. Is there any way we can speed the searching up?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

if not already, use advanced find (CTRL+SHIFT+F) it works much faster then the standard form filter search

While a 1GB mailbox is not all that large by most standards, a lot may depend on how many items the mailbox has.  If the mailbox is only 1GB but the deleted items has 100,000 items, then its going to be slow.

Are any PST files attached (on file server?).
This slows all Outlook functions down. Try disconnecting them and run same search again.

Server-based PST files are not supported by Microsoft for this reason.

recreated the outlook profile and let outlook redownload all email from exchange. It seems that that did the trick.
