Learning how to set up RAID in IBM x3850

I am learning how to install another two HDD (RAID 1) onto a x3850 production server that is already running RAID 1 to create another array. I intend to use a test server to learn first but I only have a x3650 server.

1) Is there any major difference of the RAID set up between these two servers?

2) What are all the different methods in setting up RAID in a IBM server so that I can practice.
The methods I know so far are:
i) Install ServeRAID manager in Windows
ii) BIOS
iii) ServeRAID manager bootable CD.

3) What are the pre-implementation steps/check to undertake before adding a new RAID array to a production server?

Hi Decarn,

i depends on the hardware revision of your IBM hardware.
Mostly the ServRAID 8K is used in both models, so the interfaces looks the same.
I would power off the server, install the new drives, goto the ServRAID BIOS and create a new RAID set.
If you have installed the Raid Manager on Windows you can use this tool, its more comfortable to use.

Hmm... power off the server to install the new drives. What are the risk if we install it when the server is still running?
