I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

For the record, the Juniper product is software that run on almost any intel server. However, for good throughput you need good hardware. A very good intel server, or the Juniper branded server.

One way or another, it is all transparent proxy, with some policy based routing and for a CDN some smart DNS work...

À CDN Network has to main things to it.

Frist, to route the content requests to the serverd, which is basen on DNS and policy baser routing - one way or another,

Secondly, the servers need to store and serve the content intelligently, both among the servers, but also within the server. For example, tiny content that is served often can be stored in RAM while large files that are served less often can sit on disk.

Then, of course, you need a system to manage it all.
