"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Can you post the code here even if just the problem code?

Sorry, I didn’t mean to break the rules. Please accept my apology.

I am not allowed to release the actual code, however I have put together a sample that represents one of the problems. When ReadSerial is called an error results saying that it can’t be called because it is a namespace.

I have worked in VB classic for years, VB.net is new to me.

Code:

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

   On Error GoTo Errorhandler

   Dim Result As Integer

   Result = ReadSerial()

Namespace ReadSerial

    Public Class Main : Inherits NetHook2App

        Public Function ReadHASP() As Integer

            Dim serial As System.Int32 = -1

            Try

                serial = Interop.SerialNumber()

            Catch ex As Exception

            MessageBox.Show(ex.Message, "UnHandled Exception: " + ex.Source,    MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Exclamation)

            End Try

            Return serial

        End Function

Correct me if I am wrong, but you are trying to use the ReadSerial namespace, not create it, yes?

Do you mean
Imports ReadSerial
instead of Namespace ReadSerial
Actually, you should be importing whatever library it's supposed to be coming from.

Where is this ReadSerial function supposed to be coming from?

May be you want to change

  Result = ReadSerial()

to

Dim rs as new ReadSerial.Main()
Result = rs.ReadHASP()

In the end I found that this code can only be run from within the application it is designed to work with, I was trying to get it to work separately.

Thanks to all of you for your interest and efforts to help, and I am sorry it took me so long to get back to this.
