Nintendo DSi touchscreen stops working ONLY with games!

I have a Nintendo DSi. The touchscreen works fine with no game cards installed. When I insert a game card, I can select that game, it boots, and I can tap the touch screen to get past the splash screens etc... BUT as soon as the main menu of a game is shown onscreen, the touchscreen stops working - I can't select things like New Game, Load Game etc....

I sent the console to Nintendo. The repair tracking shows that a fault was identified and repaired and the console came back - still not working!

It IS going back to Nintendo again, but I was just wondering if other people have come up against this issue before and what the outcome was to fix it?

The Nintendo DSi is being returned to Nintendo again. I've not been able to find a probable cause for this issue.

Check the screen calibration without a gamecard in place.
If it happens with all gamecards then the fault is probably hardware with the slot and/or reader.
Did you check the serial# of your unit?  Did you get the same one back from Nintendo or a refurb?
If it only happens with some cards post an example of a card that works and one that freezes the screen.

Hi - I have already done the calibration with the card in place. It happens with ALL game cards, but as I mentioned, it only happens when the game reaches the main menu - I can tap the screen to get past all splash screens, legal info etc....

Nintendo DID return the same unit.

I guess you don't have easy access to another DS unit you could put one of your cards into?

Did the tracking info include an error code?

We have another DSi, a DS lite, DSi XL and 3DS in the house, and the cards work fine on all other systems.

No bright ideas I'm afraid :(

Like commercial DVD's the splash screens and copyright notices on DS games are forced on the game card before the actual game code is loaded ( & handled by the firmware on the DS independently) so it sounds like it's linked to the stage that the actual game code takes over.  At a guess this is still a hardware fault (clearly, otherwise the rest of your DS's would see the same thing!) but at the point the touchscreen input is presented to the game code.  Up to that point the firmware is controlling the touchscreen input and just pulling preset text and graphics.  This might be a point to ask Nintendo to provide a refurbed replacement as they've no fixed the main problem although they may have replaced a faulty card reader AFTER it has caused damage further along the mainboard.

Can you ask them to let you know what gets replaced?
