Windows 7 home prem, cannot click on documents, pictures, music, or video

If I click on the links in the start menu for documents, pictures.... nothing happens. If I try in explorer under libraries same thing. The good news is that they are still in the correct folders in the user profile.
But I think this is causing some issues trying to update my iphone in itunes. Don't know but I have a feeling about this.

has anyone heard of this or know the cure?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

have you logged into Safe Mode?

if you click on something, what actually happens?  does it get highlighted?  can you browse with the keyboard--arrows, tab, enter key, etc?

Maybe something in the registry for your user profile got messed up

Make a new user on the system and see if it works for that user, if so just copy all your stuff to the new user and problem solved. Leave the old profile's files there just in case you forgot to copy something over, say from application data.
