Exchange 2010 and 2003 coexistance

If you are installing exchange 2010 into an existing 2003 exchange org.  If you just install the roles but do not move over mailboxes or cas functions.  Can you can continue to use exchange 2003 or will it take it offline during install.  we have a black berry server as well which is connecting to the exchange 2003.

just clarifing if I install exchange 2010 today and wanted to complete the migration next week, as long as I dont move the mailboxs I can still continue to use the exchange 2003 servers (owa, activesync, mapi, etc.).  Does this have any special considerations any gotchas you are aware of.  I am comfortable moving everything over just its been awhile running in coexistance.

rewording:  When i install exchange 2010 into the 2003 org do I have to transition the front end server to 2010 cas even if I have not moved mailboxes and our namespace still point to the 2003 front end.
Yes it is going to work
