C#, VS2008/10 thread, background worker, what the best learning material?

I have implemented background worker with progressbar as separate window, the code derived from codeproject. It work successfully.

However my only issue that I struggle to understand how thread and backgroundworker actually work within .NET framework. I familar with interrupt (NVIC from cortex, dsPIC, etc) for low level MCU as I'm embedded programmer for this. However the .NET framework is a different kind of beast and requires different approach in learning curve how to use it.

What the best training material and book that really make me understand better how the NET handle the thread and working with then. I also like to see list of do and don't, Perhap some kind of visual explanation material on how it work.
