Checking up and down speeds at our branch

I am at our main branch and connect to another branch about 35 miles away via VPN.  We use a Sonicwall TZ210 on both ends.  The branch complains of how slow everything is.   The VPN to our office to access the DC and we use terminal services.  The server is MS Server 2008 Enterprise.  The branch has DSL that is 1.5 down and 768 up.   I am very "green" to all this.  What I need to do is monitor the traffic between us and them to see what my actual speeds are.  Can someone tell me.....in easy to follow steps....how I can do this.
