RAID 0 re-creation on HP Proliant ML350 G5

I have replaced a dead 250GB SATA HDD.  While the details of the server's previous configuration are unknown to me I do know it was previosly mirrored as it continued to run after one if it's two drives died.  When I shut down the server and installed the drive it would not boot.  Some research told me to install the drive while the server was running so I did and after a scan for new hardware it appeared in disk management.  The problem is that I can't re-create the RAID.  Some articles say to use Windows to mirror them, but the disks must both be dynamic.  As the existing disk is not already dymanic I must assume it was not set up like this before.  Other information says to use the HP Array Configuration Utility (which is installed) it states "ACU did not detect any supported controllers in your system".  In the BIOS I did find that the SATA RAID controller was disabled- but if I choose to enable it, I am warned that all data will be lost.  If it was enabled before- how did it become disabled?
