New Exchange 2010 Server Sending to Old

We have an exchange 2010 server that is running fine, but the server is going bad so we purchased a new server, installed exchagne 2010, updated to exactly what was on the other one and moved over all the mail boxes. Everything runs fine until i turn off or unplug the network from the other server. Then we are unable to send out emails. We can receive them just fine though. After turning the server back on (or plugging in) then all the emails that were sent go through. I can not for the life of me find out where to tell exchange not to route mail through that old server. Any ideas or suggestions?
