I have just purchased a new IBM x3620M3 (7376) for the purpose of hosting some "non" critical virtual servers (Old Legacy Server).
I installed Windows 2008 R2 SP2 core on the machine. I have everything working and updated with the excception on the video card driver. I did not get the Nvidia video option, so that means I have the 16MB Matrox G200eV adapter buitl onto the mainboard.
When I run the IBM certified Driver it gives me a "Failure" error. with no explanation.
I spent 3 hours on the phone with IBM Support, trying different drivers to no avail.
Currently the driver installed is Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.
I have done all the UpdateXpress Packs, and all Windows updates, and it still will not update.
My question is this..
How important is this driver in a Core environment, and what is its relationship to the Virtual Machine that will be running on it?
Or is it just the standard device driver installed by WIndows Server Core and nothing else is needed?
The IBM Tech went so far as to tell me that IBM doesnt support Server Core on this machine after 3 hours.
