Is there a way to add a shortcut to launch an app from within Thunderbird?

The question has already been asked and answered many times that Thunderbird does not offer a direct connection or sync to Google Tasks.  (Without going to Google Apps) I was thinking, if there was a way to put an icon or tab within the Tool Bar with an URL or shortcut I could just use  "https://mail.google.com/tasks/canvas" or "https://mail.google.com/tasks/ig" to bring up my task list.  I already do this within my browser, but it would be great to have the tasks right within my calendar and mail program.  Anyone with a solution on how to add this to a toolbar in Thunderbird?

Why not install the Lightning add-on?  It's a Thunderbird plugin calendar and task scheduler.

I already did but lightning does not support tasks in 9.01.  At least from what I read.  Am I incorrect in that?
I have a tasks list using Lightning with TB v9.0.1. If you're only seeing events, click on the right arrow next to the word "Events" at the top of Lightning's pane in TB, and you'll get Events and Tasks both displayed.

Although Lightning offers Tasks, the task list that I can view seems to be local only.  It will not sync with Google Tasks.  The reason I would need this is so that I can automatically sync my phone and iPad with any tasks that I may add at my desktop.

From what I can gather, Google has not offered an API that will allow developers to link directly to Google Tasks but you can use a URL to create a link to Google Tasks.  I was able to do so within my browser, but it would be nice to do so from within Thunderbird or Lightning.

Of course Google offers a link that will sync Tasks with Outlook if you have their Business App plan which I unfortunately do not.  I would do that but the performance of IMAP with Outlook is really poor.  I have spent more time messing around with trying to get all of this to work than I will ever recover by being more organized/productive using these tools.
Poking around online, I may have a solution for you: Memotoo, available at http://www.memotoo.com/. It says it integrates TB with Google Tasks. I haven't used it, so I can't vouch for it, but it looks like what you need.

It does not appear there is a definite answer to this issue.  Although my solution is not best, it does seem to be the best solution for this situation.
