asked on
DNS MX record and a requested IP
I am making changes to my DNS with Network Solutions and I thought I had all the info needed since I have about 5 different conversation before starting the process. I have been with a web host for web and email. Now am moving my web hosting in house and have changed the A record to my IP. and was told all I needed on the MX record was to be mail.xxxxxx.com to keep the mail with my existing hosting company not wanting to bring it inhouse.. But in the DNS change process on Network solutions it is saying an IP is not associated with that address and I need to provide one. Well Hello... No one said that.. and now my hoster is have a problem giving me the IP of the mail serve.. (one reseaon I am moving away from them.)
Any thoughts/ advise. / instructions?

At any rate the Host got their act to gather and provided me the IP asociated with the MX Record: mail.xxxx.com.. in turn satisfying Network solutions. All conversation that I had said you wouldnt need to change the mx record but no one said I would need the IP address to continue in the setup process. All went well in the change after that.
