Error when trying to uninstall and reinstall WSUS 3.0 SP2 on Windows Server SBS 2k3
We recently had an issue with out SQL server which ultimately led us to uninstall SQL from our machine as well as delete the instances that were installed. One of those instances was our WSUS 3.0 Database.
I was told that simply uninstalling only the WSUS application and reinstalling it should solve our problem. We still have the WSUS database intact and ideally would like to keep it so that we can simply reattach it to our SQL database once the WSUS instance has been recreated by the reinstallation. Since I had updated our WSUS to 3.0 SP2, I used the same installer to start the uninstallation process. However, when I attempt to uninstall WSUS, the uninstaller first asks me if I would also like to remove the WSUS 3.0 SP2 database, Log Files, and downloaded update files, all three of which I leave unchecked since ideally I would like to keep those. When I click next to begin the uninstallation process, the installer looks like it tries to uninstall then returns with the message: Setup not completed! The windows Server Update Services 3.0 SP2 was not removed successfully because an error occurred.
At that point, the only option I have is to click finish which closes the wizards. Subsequent retries yields the same result.
Is there anyway to fix this issue so that I can properly uninstall and reinstall our WSUS application?
Thanks.

Ok, I went ahead and made a backup of our db and update files however when I try to uninstall WSUS 3.0 SP2, I get the same error that the Setup has not completed.
Is there anything another installer that can be used to uninstall our WSUS setup?

When I try to install the windows installer cleanup utility i get the following error:
wscript.exe - Entry Point Not Found
The procedure entry point DoOpenPipeStream could not be located in the dynamic link library ScrRun.dll
I hit OK then get the following error:
-------------------------- -
Windows Script Host
-------------------------- -
Script: C:\DOCUME~1\ADMINI~1\LOCAL S~1\Temp\1 \IXP000.TM P\StartMsi .vbs
Line: 2
Char: 1
Error: The specified procedure could not be found.
Code: 8007007F

I hit OK again and try to run the installer again and get the same two messages as above.
Is there anyway to fix it so that the installer can run properly?

Thanks, I was able to dl Windows Script 5.7 for Windows Server 2003 (per suggestion advised in the forum link you pasted) and that seemed to fix the issue. Will be running windows installer cleanup utility next and will report back on how it goes.
Good luck :)

Windows installer cleanup utility ran perfectly and I followed the instructions from the site dstewartjr posted which completely removed WSUS from our machine. After that I was able to start up the WSUS 3.0 SP2 installer which started to run. I am running into another issue in the WSUS installer but I will post a new question for that since this question was mainly to solve the issue of WSUS uninstalling.
Thanks dstewartjr.

Closing comment: Followed instructions on site that dstewartjr posted. I did run into an issue with installing the windows installer cleanup utility but dstewartjr came to the rescue again and posted a forum link that led me to dl windows script 5.7 for windows server 2003 which fixed installing WICU.
make a backup copy of your db and update files
uninstall the wsus
re-install the wsus
one wsus is back running run: WSUSutil.exe with movecontent parameter and import the db (i'm assuming you have got a backup copy of your wsus db)
