Not enough memry when printing from Acrobat X Pro

I have Windows 7 and a HP Laserjet 5M printer. With Acrobat 8 no problems, but after upgrading to X Pro, I often get the error message from the printer: "This job requires more memory than the printer has installed". I have 12 Mb installed in the printer. The error message happens only when printing certain pdf files, now a 22kB file. When I save it as a Word file, it prints fine, but if I save the Word file as a pdf, it will not print.  Printing only one page at a time does not help. On the other hand, no problems printing a 8 Mb document I have produced myself. Font problems?
Thanks,

Does the printer driver show that you have 12 MB?  I don't think the program asks the printer, it just looks at the printer info from the driver.  I have a Laserjet 4MP and the default is in the driver is like 4 MB and I have to adjust it to show the 14MB I actually have installed.

Yes, I have set it to 12 Mb or more in the advanced printer options. The 8 Mb document I mentioned is a pdf with lots of pictures, and it prints without problems.
When you go to print, can you disable the advanced printer option via control panel then print?
Somehow I've found that customer's who have upgraded to the latest Adobe Acrobat Reader X with update, they have had issues printing via Acrobat after the patch.
Not sure what was causing it, found I had to disable the advanced print option then no issues printing, was causing wierd issues ie. memory or causing the printer itself to hang and go offline for no reason.

I have Acrobat X 10.1.0, but have not installed any patches. Can you please describe in more detail how to disable the advanced printer option?
Thanks

Go to printer Properties and click the Advanced tab. You'll find it at the bottom of the window.

Andrewmcc gave the solution, I just indicated where to find it.

And, we have no idea whether it fixed the problem...

I disabled the advanced prionter option, but the same problem remained; "not enough memory". Tried to go down to 300 in resolution, print only one page at at time, but no luck. I have another machine with XP and Acrobat 8 which prints these pages without problems.

The expert comment on where to find the advanced options was posted March 1st, and it has been a busy schedule for me. Sorry not to have responded quicker. But the problem is not solved, as I now have commented. Would appreciate if the question remains open.

Pdf files seem to print fine when I check the box "print as image" under Advanced Print Setup in Acrobat. But I have the same problem printing from some Word files, even if they contain only text, i.e. an error message from the printer saying there is not enough memory installed. I tried to disable the Advanced Printing Features in the Postscript Advanced options for the Word file, and it did help temporarily, i.e. some but not all text pages printed. I then printed the document to pdf, but this pdf would not print (same error message) until I checked "print as image". Seems a bit weird.

You can try telling the driver that the printer has only 4 or 8MB installed. That way, the driver will try to adjust the output to require less printer memory, and it may be that your 12MB is then enough.

It does work to print the pages after changing the printer driver to less memory, but only one-sided, no duplex available. If I tell the printer 12 Mb or more I get the error even when printing one-sided. However, when looking more closely at the Word document, the printing was cut when there was another font (AdvP7C2E). After changing this text to Times New Roman, it printed in duplex and 12Mb of memory without problems. So can this be a font problem that I sometimes experience with Acrobat, sometimes with Word in W7? Is there some general font setting in W7 that I can change?
Yes it could be a font problem. Check the driver settings to see how the font is downloaded. If it's sent as a bitmapped font it will take more printer memory than as an outline font. And of course, both take more than if you use a printer font. Unfortunately, no printers have AdvP7C2E built-in, so that won't help. I've never heard of that font. Is it possible to download and re-install it, just in case there's something wrong with it? Or can you substitute another font that looks similar?

Re duplexing: the driver won't let you duplex with only 4MB, because for duplexing the printer must store 2 pages at a time, and 4MB will only hold 1 page.

In Device Settings, the Minimum Font Size to Download as Outline is set to 100 and Minimum Font Size to Download as Bitmap to 600. Changing these values up and down did not affect printing error. Available Postscript memory was set to 3023. When I changed to 2023, the Word document printed correctly with the odd font, but the problematic Acrobat document still gives the error about not enough memory. This document uses only Arial and Times New Roman.
What I meant was to change the setting so fonts are downloaded as outlines rather than bitmaps, as that should save memory.

I should have checked this earlier, but from your last comment it appears you are using the PostScript driver. I normally prefer PS, especially for PDFs, but in this case I would suggest trying the PCL5 driver.

How do I "change the setting so fonts are downloaded as outlines rather than bitmaps"? It seems that I cannot add a PCL5 driver to the Laserjet 5M printer as it is installed as a network printer. I only get the question if I want to replace the current driver.

Thanks! Changing to download as Softfont did not help, but the document printed nicely with the PCL driver.
